The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong

“Chloe Saunders is fifteen and would love to be normal. Unfortunately, Chloe happens to be  a genetically engineered necromancer who can raise the dead without even trying. She and her equally gifted (or should that be “cursed”?) friends are now running for their lives from the evil corporation that created them.

As if that’s enough, Chloe is struggling with her feelings for Simon, a sweet-tempered sorcerer, and his brother Derek, a not so sweet-tempered werewolf. And she has a horrible feeling she’s leaning towards the werewolf…

Definitely not normal.” – book cover

Chloe and her friends Simon (sorcerer), Derek (werewolf), Tori (witch) and Liz (poltergeist) find themselves in the care of Andrew, a friend of Simon & Derek’s dad after escaping a SWAT attack at Andrew’s place. They are to meet with a group of Supernaturals who left the Edision Group, in hopes of saving Rae and Lauren, still hostages at the Group’s lab.

But the group are scared of their powers, and not so anxious to help them. It starts to raise doubts in the kids’ minds and they are going to investigate by all means to discover whom they can trust and whom they can’t. This heteroclite group  will once again fight for their lives in another breath-taking adventure.

The reckoning is the last installment of this trilogy and you’ll be up for quite a ride. Those teens will be dodging attacks from all sides trying to break free of the multiple enemies chasing them and it won’t be easy task. Ghosts, werewolves, sorcerers and witches are after them and not all of them wants to catch em alive.

I have to say I LOVED the characters growth in the book. At the beginning of the series Tori was a real bitch and Chloe was pretty winy but they both evolved tremendously. Tori is suspected to be a spy from the Edition Group but will hold her ground and try her best to fit in and Chloe learns to control her emotions and her powers better. She also find her heart torn between Simon and Derek and will deal with it better than I thought she would. She will also face multiple crisis situation which she will take in stride. I enjoyed the relation developing between the two girls. I also need to mention I loved to see Derek and Chloe together, they got a really special relation.

The plot was well driven and fast-paced, you were moving from scenes to scenes seamlessly and efficiently which made it hard to put the book down. You always want to know what’s next.

I also liked the end, everything wraps-up nicely and Armstrong leaves tidbits of what the characters will live next. Unfortunately for us, we won’t get to read more of their adventures. I really wish there was more books to come in that series because I love it’s characters so much.

And I don’t want to give any punch but we get to meet characters for the first time at the end of this book and I really wanted to know more about them.

I strongly recommend this series to all of you Young Adult Fantasy fans out their, you won’t be disappointed =)

    4. ***SPOILERS****

Well Vanessa, I wanted more of course, I wanted to know what would happen now that they are all together on the run, how are they gonna help the other kids, what's the relation between derek and Chloe would be like. How their powers are gonna grow.
But it kind of wrapper up because they finally escaped, they are finally together, Tori's mom is out of the way so is the doctor, Chloe officialy chose Derek.

So even thought we feel like there could be a 4th book easily, the main points of the book came to a conclusion.

I read there will be a 4th book, but with different kids from one of the other projects. Maybe we'll see our characters again but has secondary ones?
