It’s with huge pleasure that I great debut author, Gwen Hayes, on the blog today, to celebrate to release of her first print book: Falling Under!
The description for Falling Under sounds amazing, but it’s so mysterious! Can you enlighten us a bit?
It’s supposed to be mysterious…better to lure in the unsuspecting readers and snare them in my trap.
It’s about a girl, Theia, who dreams about a boy, Haden. In her dreams, he’s very suave and nearly wicked—and then he shows up at her school.
Haden has a thing for Theia, but he’s there to do nefarious things that I can’t tell you about. Oh, and he’s not a vampire. Or a werewolf.
If your main characters had to introduce themselves in a tweet (140 characters or less), what would they say?
Oh wow. Neither Theia or Haden would use Twitter. But Donny and Amelia, Theia’s best friends, probably love Twitter. Ame probably has lists for every metaphysical tweeter out there, and Donny probably only follows boys.
What songs could we find on Theia and Haden’s Ipods?
Great question! I have playlist that I write with (here’s a sample) http://iLike.com/p/uN1reM:16wwte but I never really thought about which character would have which songs on their iPod.
I’ll pick one song for each character:
Haden-Possum Kingdom by The Toadies
Theia-These Dreams by Heart
Donny-Hey Pretty by Poe
Amelia-Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon
Gabe-I’ll be Waiting by Lenny Kravitz
Varnie-I Wanna be Sedated by The Ramones
(sorry I couldn’t find I’ll be Waiting on Playlist.com)
Their names are rather unique (well, to a French Canadian at least), how did you chose them?
They come to me already named. I wish I had a better explanation. I don’t really understand the writing process and how it applies to me.
Are you the Master of the plot, or are your characters strong headed?
Theia does not do anything I want or expect her to do. Ever. She makes so many mistakes and there is nothing I can do about it. Sometimes, it’s frustrating. I know that when I read reviews, people are going to comment on some of her choices and question why she was so …well, naïve or dumb. You can be sure that I made the same comments.
How does it feel to have your first print book on the shelves?
The whole process has been so interesting and fun. I’m very excited, but I don’t think it will hit me until I walk by a shelf and actually see my book on it. At the time of this interview, it’s still over a month away.
What are you working on right now? Is there a sequel on its way?
I’m working on the sequel right now! I have to turn it in the same day Falling Under is released.
A quick This or That (pick your preference):
Day or Night? Night.
Spring or Fall? Fall.
Dog or Cat? Dog.
DVD or Blu-ray? DVD.
Print book or E-book? Ebook
The Hunger Games or Vampire Academy? Vampire Academy.
And last a question I ask to all my guests: What’s your best spring break memory?
I have never gone anywhere or done anything for spring break. I’m hopelessly boring. I’m actually the Queen of Hopelessly Boring. You don’t have to bow, though.
Thank you very much Gwen for sharing with us!
Now a bit more about here book:
In her dreams he’s irresistible—seductive, charming, and undoubtedly dangerous. But when he appears to her when she’s awake—and captivates her just the same—she’s not sure which way is up and which is down.
Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life, not allowed the same freedoms as the rest of the teenagers in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, she feels every urge she’s ever denied burning through her at the slightest glance from Haden Black. Theia knows she’s seen Haden before—not around town, but in her dreams.
Theia doesn’t understand how she dreamed of Haden before they ever met, but every night has them joined in a haunting world of eerie fantasy. And as the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her forward one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear. And as she slowly discovers what Haden truly is, Theia’s not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.
Interested yet? Yeah, I though so!
