Thanks for the honest review. Bummer to hear the execution didn't quite cut it on this one because yeah, poisoning and sabotage...how can you lose?

And I totally agree with you about covers that don't reflect the book at all. That's such a pet peeve of mine, especially with urban fantasy.

Sorry to hear this one didn't live up to your expectations! I'll admit that I also judge all urban fantasies that I read against my favorites as well (Mercy Thompson, Night Huntress, Kate Daniels etc) and I usually do expect a kickass heroine. I'm glad I read your review so I won't be too disappointed if/when Ana doesn't live up to my favorite ladies' kickassery.

Good review - I think I know just what you mean also. There's a few books I've read lately that I thought would have been great. And probably would have been for me if I hadn't ever read books by my favs, McLeod, Andrews and Briggs - they're all very strong writers that keep you engrossed in their stories for the whole book. There's more of my favs of course, but it would fill a lot of space here - and some books just don't quite measure up. Almost do, but not quite. So hopefully this new writer will grow as a writer, and get better and her books will engross us soon.

This is definitely a new series that I am very curious about. I'm thinking of getting a copy for myself and see what it's like. Covers that don't reflect the story do disappoint me as well, but it is still a very attractive cover anyway! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!!
